Many years ago whilst living in Adelaide, South Australia, I occasionally played the collectible card game 'Magic:The Gathering' with friends from college but this and other CCGs never really overly captivated me.
Not long after this I was however introduced to a different CCG called 'Vampire:The Eternal Struggle', (at the time called 'Jyhad') and I found the game to have a level of balance, complexity and quality of meta-game that fired up my imagination. I was quickly hooked.
Over time I went on to form a regular playing group for V:TES in Adelaide, took up the mantle of the first V:TES Prince of Adelaide and bought and traded my way into a burgeoning collection of thousands of V:TES cards. Combined with my increasing interest in coding and web development, this led me to set up a website called the Succubus Club to allow V:TES players worldwide to trade their cards with each other online.
My work situation, which had previously allowed me the freedom to develop the site, unfortunately now changed and shortly afterwards many of my cards and favourite decks were stolen. My enthusiasm for the game waned and faced with financial struggles and different priorities in life, I sold off my cards and drifted away from the game.
Many years later, now living in London, I recently found myself playing a card game of Munchkin with some friends of my partner and this of all things re-ignited my desire to once again play V:TES, perhaps explore the local game scene and perhaps start collecting the cards anew.
The initial purpose of this blog is to therefore record my memories of the game as it was back then, compare this with my experiences of the game as it has now become and detail my return journey to the world of Vampire:The Eternal Struggle.
